Arbitration & Alternative Dispute Resolution
Drawing upon their years of experience on behalf of clients in arbitration and mediation, both Pete Thompson and April Gassler are available on a selective basis to serve as arbitrators or mediators.
Pete Thompson’s wide-ranging experience, both in insurance coverage disputes and in litigation more generally, has led both insurers and insureds to select him as a party-appointed arbitrator in complex coverage arbitrations. He strives to bring to his arbitration engagements the same attention to detail, careful analysis, thoughtful and concise writing, and respect for the process and the participants that he always has endeavored to bring to his work on behalf of clients.
April Gassler’s experience representing insurers in connection with complex coverage mediations motivated her to complete a 40-hour mediator training program that meets the requirements of Md. Rule 17-104 (formerly Rule 17-106). In her work both as a client advocate and mediator-trainee, April observed how often the parties’ (and sometime the mediator’s) focus on who is “right” and who is “wrong” prevent them from seeing the path towards common ground and possible resolution. As a result, she endeavors to listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and think creatively in mediation.
